Nursing License
Nursing License questions and answers
Got questions about Nursing License, well we've got the answers at Nursing Online Learning.
Q: Nursing License?
I am currently a Registered Nurse in Maine and am moving to Kansas, which is not a "compact state" for nursing licenses. What do I have to do in order to obtain a Kansas nursing license? Please do not tell me it involves a test.....
A: I don't know of any state that makes you test all over again. You just get a "license by endorsement", meaning you submit a copy of your current license, and usually evidence of your graduation from a nursing program and/or evidence that you've been working as an RN.
I found this pretty easily by googling "kansas state board of nursing". . . looks like it only costs $75.

Q: What is the worst action a nurse could take that would ruin their nursing license?
This question is not meant to be funny or to be taken lightly. It also should not include the harming of a patient either. From a legal perspective what is the worst thing/action a nurse could take that could ultimately ruin their nursing license? We are in need of opinions for this question. Thank you.
A: Sexually assault a male patient (it's more common than you think).
Q: If you get your nursing license in California, can you still practice in other states?
I'm about to start nursing school and I will have my license in two years. My fiance just joined the Air Force so we will probably be moving around alot. I just want to know if I'll be able to work in other states if my license is from California.
A: Each state either requires its own license or is a "compact state" (states that take a single license). This does not involve more testing, just paperwork and money. California certifies your license in good standing to the state you are applying for, you fill in the paperwork and pay the $ to the new state board.
Q: How long do you have to wait for your nursing license to come in the mail after paying the fee?
It has been a little over a week since I sent in my payment for my nursing license and was wondering how long I have to wait for it to come in the mail so that I could start applying for jobs.
A: It can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month...
Q: If you get your nursing license in one state, can you practice in another?
For example, I'm getting my nursing degree from a college in New York, and I am planning on moving to Ohio when I graduate. Can I practice nursing there? Is my nursing license even valid? If not, what steps or processes would I have to take to get a valid license?
A: In USA every state has different requirement of nursing examination and license. But few states also have the reciprocity arrangements with which you can work with the same license just by clearing the state level exam. So you will have to contact the state board of nursing to check this.
Q: How do I know if the board will even give me my nursing license?
How do I know that the nursing board will give me my license after I complete school? I do not want to pay and put myself through school and not be able to obtain my license.
I have a felony from a dui and I guess what I am asking is if I go through the schooling first and then the board will determine if they will let my have my license or how do I go about that? Thank you for all your feed back it is so much appreciated.
A: I don't know but I do know that at my school you wouldn't have been admitted and if any of us get anything even a misdemeanor while attending it must be reported immediately and is grounds for being kicked out.
EDIT: Call your state board people and find out...ask them specifically how your specific charge will affect taking the boards and any restrictions that might be put on your license because of it.
Q: Can I obtain a nursing license after my record is expunged and I'm in a diversion program?
My lawyer said I could run into problems obtaining a license for optometry in the long run after being charged with possession of marijuana <50gms. Does the same go for nursing? Can I still obtain a nursing license?
A: Each state is different so you should call the Nurse Licensing Board for your state. For some of the more strict states, even offenses as juvenile records are screened, along with all arrest, whether charged or not and a felony conviction would be an automatic disqualifier.
Q: how to get a michigan nursing license if I already have a Indiana one?

Q: What school will except my credits after I get my practical nursing license?
concorde career institute says they are an accredited school, but I am wondering what school can I transfer onto after I get my practical nursing license?
A: I don't know where Concorde school of Nursing is but if they are accredited the credits transfer to almost any college. It is a state by state issue.
Here are the Accredited schools of Nursing listed on the California Board of Vocational Nursing site.
http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/education/schools/vn_schools.shtml

Q: What are the nursing license requirements for the State of Washington?
If I'd want to get a WA Nursing license. I currently hold a Tennessee LPN license ... what would I have to do to change it?
A: Google "Washington State Board of Nursing", and look on their website for their licensure information, to transfer a license it's usually called "licensure by endorsement". You'll fill out their forms, submit your current license, do a background check, pay the fee, and that's usually all there is to it in most cases.

Q: How do I get Nursing license transferred to Texas?
I'm currently a Registered Nurse in Arkansas planning to move to Texas. What steps do I need to take to get a license and to practice in Texas?
(This question is actually for a friend of Madoli's)
Each individual state has it's own Board of Nursing. Even though everyone takes the same exam, there are different requirements state to state. Some state's licensing is reciprical with other states where you don't have to pay any extra fees or anything. Just wondering if anyone knows if Arkansas and Texas have reciprical licensing.
stockpicker2010, I actually am moving to Houston! Is it as much of a nursing dreamland for male nurses? (madoli's friend)
A: http://www.bne.state.tx.us/
Try to get the info from the Texas Board of nursing site.
I am licensed in another state and would like to endorse my license into Texas. What is the procedure and how long does it take?
A. For those coming from a non-compact state (list of compact states), you must do the following:
1) To be eligible for licensure by endorsement, you must have graduated from an approved PN/VN or RN program, taken the appropriate US exam, have either worked in nursing or have taken the US NCLEX® exam sometime in the previous four years prior to the application and have no discipline against your license in any other nursing jurisdiction(s).
2) Go to www.bne.state.tx.us. There are two (2) methods for endorsement, complete either the online application or download an Endorsement Application.
Online Application:
a) Click on "Initial Texas Nursing License by Endorsement" and follow the instructions online. You may pay online via credit card or check. If you are unable to use the online application, print the paper version by following the instructions for Paper Application.
b) A Fingerprint Card Packet will be mailed to you within ten working days.
c) Mail the photo and the two fingerprint cards to:
Licensing Department
Board of Nurse Examiners
333 Guadalupe, Suite 3-460
Austin, Texas 78701
Paper Application:
a) Click on forms, then scroll to LVN or RN Endorsement Application;
b) Copy the application and instructions;
c) You must also request a fingerprint packet by clicking on Fingerprint Card Packet. Highlight endorsement in the drop down box and then provide your name and address. The fingerprint cards will be mailed within ten working days.
d) Mail the application, fee, photo and the two fingerprint cards to:
Licensing Department
Board of Nurse Examiners
333 Guadalupe, Suite 3-460
Austin, Texas 78701
3) Upon receipt of a completed application, fee, photo and the two fingerprint cards, you will receive a temporary permit/license within ten working days if eligible. The temporary permit/license will be valid for 120 days.
4) To receive your permanent license, you will need to follow up with each and every nursing jurisdiction (US state and territories, Provinces and Countries) that you hold or ever held a nursing license. This is the responsibility of the applicant not the BNE. If your US state participates in the national database called NURsys®, you will need to pay one fee to that system by going to www.nursys.com or using the form provided in your packet.
B. For those applicants coming from compact states (see list of compact states), you cannot apply for a license by endorsement until you actually move to Texas and/or Texas becomes your home state of residence. When this occurs, you can practice on your previous clear and current compact license for up to thirty days while you are going through the endorsement process.
