Q: what are the opinions of community about nurses and nursing profession?
people generally have differing views of the nursing profesion and the nurses, positive and negative. some consider them to be promiscous while others see them to be caring and self sacrificing, and so on. so, what is your own view or the view of people in your community?

A: Nurses are not mute “doctor’s handmaidens” or “helpers”. Neither are they mere “Nancy Do Gooders”, “Angels of Mercy”, dumb bimbos, sex toys for residents, or servants who perform a plethora of menial tasks “after getting approval from a doctor”. Nursing is a self-governing scientific healthcare discipline practiced by professionals who have received between two to ten years of formal university education taught by nurse educators prepared at the Master’s or Doctoral level, successfully passed state board of nursing examinations, and in many cases have additional education and certification in specialty areas of nursing practice. Nursing is a distinct and autonomous healthcare profession with its own unique standards of practice, scope of practice, and professional organizations that practices in collaboration with the Medical profession in addition to the Allied Health Professions as part of the health care team. Nurses serve as chief executive officers of corporations and hospitals, on boards of directors, teach in the community health setting as well as in PhD Nurse Educator roles in Universities and help develop policies that guide the course of healthcare delivery.

Q: what are current issues in community nursing at the present?
I am hoping to change career pathway and go into community nursing. I am interested to find out about relevant topical issues

A: 90% of all patient contacts in the NHS are in Primary Care, but it doesn't get 90% of the funding. I work in PC and at the moment things are stretched to breaking point. More treatments and care now takes place in the community, but unfortunately the resources have decreased. Jobs and banding are being cut. My employer is currently trying to re-band all us band 7 nurses as band 6! Everything at the moment is about providing the minimal care (not the best) at the lowest cost. You are more autonimous, but have little support. Many hospital based nurses think PC is the soft option. I can assure you it's not.

Q: Question for those familiar with macomb community college nursing program?
I am going for nursing , I have psychology, comp 101 and a math class but need to redo because of a low grade! what other pre-reqs will i need? Do i have to have all the pre-reqs done before i can take the entry exam? will i have to wait two yrs after i get on the list to get into the nursing program?

A: This is something you should discuss with one of the nursing or pre-nursing counselors at your school. Or else, check and see if your school offers nursing information sessions and attend one of them so you know if you are going about on the right path. If you don't feel comfortable (or don't have the time) to meet with a counselor, you can always email them your questions. Just go under the academic -> nursing section on your community college's website and find the email of one of the nursing professors, head-of, or admission counselors.

Q: Does anyone know what state is a good one for getting in to nursing school via a community college, PA stinks?
I'm trying to get in to a nursing track at a community college somewhere. I'm actually willing to move because all the community colleges around me in PA only let in 50 people each year when like 500 apply because of the lack of teachers. Does anyone know where a good state is to go to for nursing?

A: Well Im not sure where you live in PA, but thats where I live, and my best friend went to nursing school at community college of Allegheny county, near pittsburgh, and she is an LPN, and doing great. My sister also started there this fall for their nursing program as well. Its a huge college, with 4 different campuses, and they have a wonderful 2 year nursong program. They accept anyone who applies into it. My sister didnt even have to take her SAT's, she just had to take placement testes when she got there, so they knew where she fell in math and english, but if you are willing to move and want a community college, then Community College of Allegheny County is a great school. The website is www.ccac.edu, so you can go to that website and check it out.

Q: I guess you can say I'm scared of applying towards community college nursing school?
It seems that on an average, 200 students apply to this nursing program annually, but only 28 seats are available. I'm not the best. I'm an A and B student who loves health and helping people reach their optimal health. What will I do if I don't get accepted?

A: As and Bs are really high I think you will most likely get in ! If not try another college.. I know someone who traveled abroad :)

A: I am a regular Nurse, the Community Health Nurse, could do anything from making home visits, to having her own place to operate out of....She may visit schools, community centers, or any of the local clinics...Each district or community has their own guidelines, but normally she would have a larger range of patients and usually younger or older than the average...thank you

Q: Community Colleges in Mesquite area that offer a nursing program?
I am looking for a college in or around Mesquite that offers a nursing program. I prefer a community college.

A: I'm pretty sure community colleges are only 2 years and you can only get an Associates Degree from them. Nursing programs are at least 4 years and you need to be in a University/Private or State College to become a nurse. If you really want to go to a community college, then you can get some of your pre-requisites done before you transfer to a University/Private or State College. Why do you want to go to a community college anyways? If your looking for more of a transition from high school to college then you can get 2 years and transfer or go to a private college. I personally would never want to go to a community college.
