Q: Do most babies nurse on both sides or just one side?
I'm trying to figure out if it's really necessary to breastfeed on both sides or just do one side if baby falls asleep and then do the other side when he awakes. I understand I may have to hand express the side he doesn't nurse on right away to avoid engorgement.
A: Early in the breastfeeding relationship, it is important to feed from both sides to stimulate milk production. However, after about 6 weeks, I stopped trying to make my daughter feed from both, because she always refused the 2nd side and it stressed me out! I found out that some moms make enough milk to feed from one side per feeding. I was struggling with oversupply, and would stay on one side for as many feedings as she wanted in a 3 hour stretch. So, you do not always have to feed with both if baby is satisfied with just one. Do try and make sure you are feeding equally from both sides, so that the supply stays up in both.
Q: How fast does hydrogen peroxide break down after exposed to sterile water or sunlight?
This is an ongoing debate in my ICU, because so many nurses combing Hydrogen peroxide and sterile water for various wound care and keep the combination in a container for later use by other nurses. Some nurses say it is no longer useful after so many hours. Some nurses say it is useful for days.
A: It does break down, but only very slowly. The hydrogen peroxide you buy in stores can stay on the shelves for months without any problem. Adding more water shouldn't make it decompose any faster. I don't know about the stability in sunlight, but I wouldn't expect it to break down in just hours.
Q: What type of nurses get to wear the cute scrubs with cartoon characters on them?
I am going to become a cna and was wonder what nurses get to wear these types of scrubs. Or does it just depend on who you work for.
Thanks.
A: I work with seniors mostly and I wear(and have seen) everything, Mickey and Minnie, Sponge Bob, Snoopy, Tinkerbell, Winnie the Pooh... We are allowed to wear what ever we want. I did work in the ER during school and there were cartoon scrubs there too.
Q: Who makes more money, nurses or attorneys? How long does it take to become an attorney, what are the steps?
I am assuming here that an attorney is the same thing as a lawyer, but I don't know how to become one. I do know enough about nurses so no need to reply with that info.
A: The average attorney makes considerably more money than the average nurse.
However, some nurses make more money than some attorneys.
Some U.S. States have no requirement that an attorney have graduated from a law school ... just pass the state's bar exam. Most U.S. States require attorneys to have graduated from a law school and have passed the state's bar exam. All states bar exams are very difficult with some state's exams being even more difficult. Many law school graduates have great difficulty in passing the bar exam ... many take it several or more times before passing and some never pass it.
Law school is usually 3 years, which one can apply to enter after completing 4 years of undergraduate studies in any major at a recognized 4 year institution. Undergraduate grades and test scores on the LSAT (exam to enter law school) are weighed heavily on consideration for entry.
Q: How would Universal Healthcare affect the pay and demand for nurses in California?
Would it increase the demand for nurses? Would the wage of registered nurses make more, less or still the same?
A: The pay would drop substantially, and health care delivery would be slower, so the demand should not increase. But, a federal judge is forcing California to build some 9 or so huge hospitals for prison populations, so the demand would increase there, but in dismal locations.
Q: How many nurses in UK or Ireland if given a work permit would like to come to the usa to work?
I only want to hear from Nurses or someone with direct experience. Please also tell me what country you are from.
A: I'm a British trained nurse and live in the USA. I was a nurse in the UK for over 20 years. I wouldn't take a nursing job here for any reason.
Q: Where can I find a sexy nurses costume at this time of year?
My boyfriend is coming home from the hospital in a couple days and I am going to be taking care of him. I think it be a cute idea if I surprise him wearing a sexy nurses outfit when I get back from class... I am in nursing school. Where could I find one or does anyone have any creative ideas on how to make one?
A: Online shops would be a good source if you had the time. I'd suggest your local costume shop or lingerie stores would carry them.
Otherwise, go to Goodwill and get a doctor's coat, then alter it to fit your body, shortening the hem as well.

Thanks!
A: I found this, http://www.bcpublicservice.ca/salary_admin/Nurse_2003Jan01.pdf
I don't know if its what your looking for.
Q: What is the job title for the nurses at doctors offices?
I'm looking into going into the nursing field and I was wondering what title the nurses that work at doctors offices have? The ones that call you in and weigh you and stuff. Not giving shots or anything.
A: Actually, a certified medical assistant is trained to give shots and draw blood, so the first responder is incorrect.
Some clinics have nurses, some have RNs, others have LPNs but most manage with medical assistants. They have no nursing education, no license and should not be called a nurse.
They are crucial to the function of a medical clinic, but the title of nurse should be reserved for those who actually provide the advanced nursing care.
Q: What advantage to male nurses have over female nurses?
What issues or challenges do male nurses have that female nurses do not have?
A: Physical strength to lift/move patients. Nursing was/is considered a female profession stereotypically, so males have that challenge....most "charge" nurses are women and sometimes can be difficult on their staff...also MDs, who many times lack not only in "bedside manner" but with dealing with nurses in general. (psychologist)

Q: Is it okay to express your feelings to the nurses at the hospital?
Say you think one of them is cute is it alright to tell them or is that improper? I am in a rehab center where I am the only young male patient and it seems some of the pretty nurses are really flirting with me at times.
A: We're talking just flirting, right? Insults and all other sexist remarks don't apply. Don't overstep your boundaries, and you're fine. Any woman is flattered to be noticed. In all seriousness, there's nothing wrong with telling someone you think they're cute. Anything beyond that - use your best judgement, and be polite about it. I don't think they will mind. They will either accept or reject your remarks, and you will know it for sure. If they joke with you, I think it's only fair to joke back. Jokingly, though. :))
