Nurses Online questions and answers

Got questions about Nurses Online, well we've got the answers at Nursing Online Learning.

Q: Does anyone know of free online learning for nurses?
A few years ago I found a site with lots of online learning modules for nurses. Once you had done the relevant reading you would then do a test and if you passed by a certain percentage you could print a certificate. This site offered all this for free. However I cannot remember what it was called and cant find it on google etc. Does anyone know what this site is called? I meant for continuing professional development.

A: I've never heard of that and to be honest with you, I wouldn't want to be under the care of a nurse who never had clinical training. I think you misread that. You have to have hands on training otherwise, how else do you think you start and IV, give meds, do dressings etc. You can't. I'm sorry, but if you want to be a nurse, you're going to have to do it the right way. ADD sorry, I misunderstood. I get a lot of these links when I log on but I can't remember. If I get another one before your question expires, I let you know or e-mail you if you allow it.

Q: Are there real doctors and nurses online answering health questions?

A: I don't know. I do know there is a lawyer who is a "top contributor" for legal questions who uses the site as free advertising. I answer many health/medical questions as I was a medic in the U.S. Air Force. I graduated from the USAF/School of Aerospace Medicine. My job consisted of assisting the flight surgeon in many different ways. We held "sick call" for pilots and other flying personnel. Performed physical exams, served on the crash ambulance crew, flew air rescue, was a member of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Team. Whenever we only had one flight surgeon I used to perform "triage" duty in mass casualty exercises. We used to joke with our docs.... they went to school for 10 years plus (counting residency) and had a "license to practice" medicine. We went to school for 2 months and PERFORMED medicine. I joined the USAF at the age of 17 and because of my scores on the Armed Forces tests I was selected for USAF/SAM. If the civilian world utilized the "military style" of medicine everyone there would be "universal health care" and it would be much less expensive than it is now. Had I not broken my neck and damaged my spinal cord (I was paralyzed on one side) I planned to go to Physicians Assistant school. Most of the questions I answer I know the answer to completely. Either from dealing with patients, or from medical issues of my own, friends, and family members. I also research all answers, usually at Medscape (the medical professional version of WebMD) and other medical websites. FYI- I believe that Navy corpsman are some of the sharpest diagnosticians out there. They go to school for a year or so. Truth be told if I had my choice... I would be treated by a veterinarian. They must learn many anatomical systems, their patients can't talk and tell them what is wrong or where it hurts. There are a lot fewer Vet schools than medical schools so they get only the best. Think about it.

Q: Where can i find online Certified Nurses Assistance courses online?

A: As I know, this site has top listing of such college courses online - edu.2kool4u.net

Q: Any registered nurses out there who did their training strictly online?
I'd like to make a career change as an RN but don't have the "time" (family) to go to school. Any RN's out there working did their training online? If so, where and how long was the program? DFW area preferred.

A: Too many State regulations and liability issues with offering any type of health career as an on-line option. The classes and clinicals are set up to work together for someone to obtain the most effective education that meets the State's licensing requirements. If anyone could go and sign up for on-line classes and become a nurse we probablly would not see the shortage in nursing and the demand for qualified candidates would be gone. Most of your Nursing programs are offered as full-time options during the day. Have you thought about how that would work within your situation? Part-time at night is for the classes you will need to get accepted into the program for nursing. My choice was to go for a Dental Hygienist certification; I have taken all of my prerequisits and have run out of classes to take that would help me obtain my goal. I either have to commit to a full-time program that is only offered during the day, or give this up. I have checked into several schools and the requirements are the same- no part-time or online option. The school's web site clearly states that if one cannot comit to a Full-time class load and work with in the program classes scheduled times- THEN DO NOT APPLY. If you think about it; personlly I would like to know that the person who had my life in their hands was qualified and licensed to practice- wouldn't you. Good Luck with your choice. (I have 4 young kids and work full-time; if I can do this than anyone can. Trust me, going through this will be a sacrifice, but I am looking at the bigger picture.)

Q: Help with career. any nurses online? please help?
I want to become a NICU nurse, and im going to be starting university college (4 years) and i was just wondering what exactly are the steps to becoming a pediatric nurse. i want to be the nurse who takes care of the babies in the NICU, i had an internship at a hospital doing this last year, and i really liked it. are there a series of steps or other levels of nursing that i would have to be before i can be one of those. also how many years would it take for me to become one of those?? thanksssss

A: I believe your basic BSN degree will qualify you; you may need to start work in any hospital ward you can get and wait for your seniority to qualify you for any openings. Taking lots of continuing education in neonatal care would be a plus. Of course, an MSN degree would be necessary if you ever dreamed of becoming a nursing administrator.

Q: Hi any nurses online? I have a question about cane use...........When assisting my grandpa on how to use his?
cane, which side should he hold his cane? on the affected side? Also should I walk slightly ahead on his affected side while he is using his cane? Your answer is worth 10 points.

A: One should hold the cane in the hand opposite your painful or weak leg. If your balance is poor, use your steadier hand. Always move the cane and the opposite leg together. climbing up stairs - Lead with your strongest leg first. Then next with the cane, and the weak or painful leg to that same step. going down stairs - Step down with the cane and the weak or painful leg first. Then, lower the strong leg to that same step. Safety Tips: Replace worn rubber tips immediately. Attach an ice pick in winter.

Q: Can you become a Nurse Practitioner with an online degree?
Of course this is assuming that you took all your science requirements like Human Anatomy and Microbiology in college already, then got a diploma in nursing on top of an Associates in Health Sciences.....Is it possible to do a bridge program to get a Masters in Nursing with online classes to eventually become Nurse practitioner? If not purely online, how much can you take online and what online Nursing college will transfer to a school which can award this degree?

A: Yes, you can do most of it online. You can do all or most of your nursing prerequisites online to start, then get your LPN in the course of one year. After that, find an online LPN to RN bridge program, then RN to BSN bridge, then BSN to MSN. The bridge programs require you to be working as a nurse as you go through their programs, so that you will gain experience and use that as your clinical site.

Q: How would I go about getting my bachelors in nursing online?
I need to do classes online, I can maybe do 1 or 2 night clasees but majority online. I need to know of any accredited schools that offer online programs. Even if I cant do it all online Id like to know if there is a way to do the majority or even my 1st core classes I need online. Please be as specific as possible, and websites are a plus. Thank you so much

A: You cannot become a nurse online. Nursing school involves going to classes, doing skills labs and working in clinical settings to gain practical expereince. Nursing consists of hands on skills which you can not learn online. You have to learn/practice you skills on real people. No accredited school are online. Be careful. There some online scams that are not accredited and will not result in a nursing license.

Q: Where can I become a registered nurse online?
I want to become a RN but need to do it online, I know part of it I can't do online. But I want to do most the schooling online. What are some online colleges can I go through? Thanks!

A: You cannot become a nurse online. Nursing school involves attending classes, doing skills labs and working in clinical setting to gain experience. To get a nursing licence you must attend a real school that is fully accredited.

Q: How do I become a nurse through online classes?
I have a full time job from 7 am until 4 pm. I have a few basic college courses under my belt but thats about it. I would love to finish my nursing degree! 2 year degree to become an RN is what I want. I was wondering if it was possible to do most of this online, and how do I go about this? Thank you!

A: There are many Universities that now offer online courses or have a distant learning program for certain degrees. Learning management systems would also be a good place to look as they have an extensive catalog of courses that cover all occupations and degrees. You can complete a lot of your learning or studying online, however, you must be present for your clinicals. With nursing, it requires not only a vast amount of knowledge, but also practice of routine. You are not going to learn how to do properly do everyday tasks such as put in an IV to a patient if you don't actually practice on a patient. However, you can get a lot of your studying out of the way by completing it online. Do some research, check out what Universities offer distant learning programs, or what Learning management systems have the courses necessary to help you complete your training. You can check out http://www.coggno.com/onlinetraining which is a learning management system and see if they have any classes you need.
